Original Spanish American War US Army Infantry TropicalHelmet. Right out of the woodwork froman estate within the last month… Has never been in a collection. Manufactured around 1898, Very Good Condition. No cracks or dry rotting.

Has Original Spanish American War US ArmyInfantry Brass Insignia / Badge still attached to what is actually the rear ofthe helmet. However, these helmets wereoften worn backwards by combat infantry because the design caused the helmet totilt forward and obstruct the soldier’s vision while firing in a prone positionif the helmet was worn in the standard way.I have seen this in photos of both US troops in the Philippines and Cubaduring the Spanish American War as well as British troops in South Africaduring the Boer War, but I have never come across a helmet like this thatexhibits actual proof of this practice in combat. RARE.

Size 7 paper label still affixed to the leather sweatband.One small hole in the front ofthe helmet where it appears another piece of insignia may have been attached atone time.
