SPARKS-WITHINGTON SPARTON 409GL VINTAGE ART DECO BLUE MIRROR TUBE RADIO TEAGUE
Price: US $1531.90
Up for sale is a Sparton 409 (409-GL) tabletop tube radio, made in 1938/1939 by the Sparks-Withington company, and designed by Walter Teague. It consists of an inclined mirror, with the chassis artfully concealed in a rear cab. The midnight blue mirror glass is seven sided, with beveled edges, and features a circular cut-out in front of the loudspeaker, and dial markings formed into the rear of the glass. The wooden runners, upon which the ensemble sits, are finished in ebony. The radio is a four-tube, AC-DC, superheterodyne circuit with both a ballast tube and a resistance line cord. A grey flock finish was used on the back of the mirror and the wooden cabinet. This provided a very unobtrusive matte finish. This radio was found at an estate, and is in \"as found\" condition. I believe this is all original. When the radio is plugged in, it does not make any noise. There is a screw missing on the underside foot \"runner\". Some of the finish on the backside of the mirror has worn off. If you look down in the slits on top of the radio, there is a lot of dust covering all of the internals. The radio measures: 12\" (W) * 5\" (D) * 71/2\" (H)This radio is definitely worthy of a restoration. A restored model of this radio recently sold on for $2,225.00
