Another week, another excellent assortment of mechanical, technological and musical antiques, including some stuff I swore I\'d never sell. Take a look. You won\'t be disappointed. Here\'s a gorgeous 1905 Victor Monarch Special disc phonograph (Type MS) that\'s about as clean as they come and is in perfect working order. This is the second version of the MS, with a large, tiered, smooth-sided base reminiscent of the base on a Zonophone Grand Opera. It was manufactured at the tail end of the MS\'s production run, and it\'s uncommon, with an understated Romanesque elegance that stands in contrast to its predecessor\'s Rococo appearance. As you can see in the pictures, the phonograph is pristine, with a cabinet that\'s close to mint, and an original finish that exhibits virtually no wear and has no chips, no dents, no dings, no missing chunks of wood, no problems. Just furniture quality oak that\'s clearly been pampered over the course of its lifetime. All four cabinet feet are original. The back-bracket is in excellent condition, with beautiful original decorations and original enamel. The nickel-plated fittings gleam, the original turntable felt exhibits moderate but not excessive wear, The ID plate is clean and legible, the brake is working properly, the horn elbow is nearly perfect, with no dings or dents, the governor and brass barrel motor are working properly, the original Victor Exhibition reproducer has been professionally rebuilt and sounds great. The 24\" long Victor \"J\" horn has been professionally polished and re-lacquered, and it looks as beautiful as the phonograph. The machine\'s only obvious concession to the ravages of time is a fairly trivial one -- some oxidation and nickel wear on the crank, (though no more than you typically see on original Victor slotted cranks). Base (excluding back bracket) measures approximately 14\" x 14\" x 8\".Overall, an exceptional 110+-year-old Victor that will arrive ready to play an enjoy. Plays multiple sides with a single winding, and plays them without bumping and grinding. If you\'ve been offering your time, patiently waiting for the right \"daily player\" to place on a countertop, corner table or sideboard, I think you\'re looking at it.I\'ll include with the phonograph an early, acoustically Victor record, and if you get tired of listening to them, there are plenty of other titles available on and elsewhere. Thousands of early acoustic 78 RPM records show up on on a weekly basis, and they typically sell for just a few dollars each. If you\'re not already familiar with how tooperate an early disc phonograph, don\'t worry. I\'ll provide you with simple, easy to understandset-up instructions,so you\'ll be able to use it within minutes after you unpack it and put it together.
