This is a stunning pair of gothic wooden oak corbels with the intricate carvings of the winged gargoyles of which:
During our research we have been informed they certainlydate from the 19th century.
Date about c1880s.
Of a black forest origin.
Gothic.
A pair of: large wooden oak corbels of:
the winged gargoyles with their intricate carving and detail.
Wonderful portrayals with the open mouths, clawed feet and decorative tuned tails to the rears.
Acanthus leaf wings.
Rounded fronts with the flowers.
Gargoyles made up in sections with glue areas to one.
Carved within the oak three sided frames.
Flat top, bottom and rear.
Each has an overall size of about 16.5 x 13.25inches.
Maxdepth of about 3inches.
Condition: Considering the age, the overall condition to both is excellent and both are not subject to:
any major blemish except:
one has loss of a section underneath the base with the other having a chip to the top of the frame.
Due to age: one has minor evidence of historic treated woodworm.
