This is an outstanding find of avery nice,working,hand carved, musical, animated hunter cuckoo clock that was createdinthe Black Forest about 45 years ago in what was then, \"West Germany,\" by \"Albert Schwab,\" one of the finest clock makers in this region of the world. This is a large clock that is made entirely of curedand aged Linden wood, has a gorgeous, deep mahogany finish, andadorned with ten large, carved woodoakleaves on the front. Another carved wooden oak leaf is found on the wooden pendulum. Thecarvings are exceptional, deep, intricate, and wavy.There is alarge carved wooden game bird to the right of the dial and an equally impressivecarved wooden rabbit to the left. There is a game bag near the bottom ofthe case in front and a large wooden deer head at the top with two woodenshotguns underneath. I don\'t think the antlers are wood but they surelook real. The dial has has ablack backdrop and featuresraised white Roman numerals to mark the hoursand fancy matching hands to point out the time.There is a scalloped platform above the dial with hand painted Edelweiss flowers and four colorful dancing couples are positioned there. Theclock has a fitted wood back and latches securely. It easily removes toallow access to the weight driven, mechanical \"Regula\" movementinside the case bearing the Albert Schwab name. A weight driven movement simply means that the chainsneed to be pulledoccasionallyto wind the clock, music, dance, andcuckoo activity. Regula makes the best movements and Schwab featured them in his high end clocks. Thebellow tubes are in good shape and the tops look and sound good too! At the bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opensthe small door above the dial and stands in the doorway. He gives off asingle cuckoo sound in tandem with a nice sounding chime inside the case beforeretreating back inside the clock, closing the door behind him. When he\'ssafely inside, the dance platform begins to turn and the dancers twirl aboutwhile a mechanical, high quality Swiss music box inside the case plays a heavenlyrendition of \"Dr Zhivago, Lara\'s Theme,\" one of my my wife\'s favorite tunes from the movie, Dr Zhivago!When the music stops, the dancers stop and wait for the next danceopportunity. The bird reappears at the top of each hour andcorrectly cuckoos/chimes the current number of hours before retreating to thesafe confines of the inner clock. The dance platform begins to turn againbut this time the music box plays an equally impressive rendition of \"Im Munchen Steht ein Hofbrau Haus,\" one of the most popular German tunes ever produced. When the music stops, the dancers stop and wait for the next half hour; fascinating! The clock works quite wellhere, keeps good time, and cuckoos as it should though being an old clock and we don\'t know the service history, someadjustments or service may be necessary once the clock arrives at its newhome. We always recommendto our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least onceevery three years. Doing so will preserve a great clock like this one andkeep it running strong. The clock comes complete as shown with three setsof attached metal chains, a woodenoak leaf pendulum, andthreeratherheavy pinecone shaped metal weights. I\'ve looked the clockover fairly well and can\'t find any damage or missingpieces. I did see a tiny, nicely-done repair on one of the lower leaves...not detracting at all; I doubt if anything could! It is animpressiveclock and equally so insizemeasuring about 17\"high (from the tip of the antlers to the bottom of the game bag and not counting the weights or pendulum), about 8 1/2\" at its deepest point, and about 10\" or so across thetop. This clock is one of the finest ever made in Germany.
