*Superb* 1949-1954 HEDDON No.50 \"Deluxe President\" 8-1/2\', 3/2 Split Bamboo Fly
Price: US $683.83
It\'s my pleasure to offer at sale a Spectacular and rather Scarce 1949-1954 HEDDON No.50 \"DELUXE PRESIDENT\" 8-1/2 FT., 3/2 SPLIT BAMBOO \"TROUT ACTION\" FLY ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL LABELED BAG & ALUMINUM TUBE. Easily, one of the finest examples I\'ve seen of this model. The No.50 \"President\" was always one of the highest-grade fly rods everbuilt by James Heddon\'s Sons, from its introduction in 1928 to the end of production in the mid-1950\'s. Because this example carries the Post Classic Era rod shaft markings, we know it\'s a post-war version built from 1949 to about 1954. Heddon\'s Cleo Hanley has handwritten \"Heddon\" on one flat, \"Deluxe\" on a second, \"President\" on a third and \"#50 - 8-1/2 - 2F - HDH or E\" on yet another flat. The \"2F\" means the rod was built on a No.2 ferrule, in what Heddon referred to as their \"Standard Trout\" action, a very versatile action/taper for many freshwater gamefish. The \"HDH or E\" is the old line weight designation equivalent to today\'s modern 5 or 6 wt. lines. The reel seat locking ring is stamped \"PAT. NO.1807078\", the 1931 patent assigned to Heddon for the screw-locking seat. \"Hand-built\" with the highest-quality brown tone Tonkin cane that Heddon had in stock and comes equipped with extra tip section, Perfection guides & tip top, blackened nickel hardware, hand wrought & serrated ferrules, flip-ring hook keeper, polished black fiber winding check, grip check & threaded part of reel seat, screw-locking \"Hold-Tite\" reel seat with imported solid Circassian walnut spacer & silver hardware, plastic butt cap, solid cork grip and nicely wound in golden tan silk tipped in forest green. I\'ve added a photo of the original listing for the No.50 \"President\" from Heddon\'s 1954 catalog, where it wasonce moreHeddon\'s highest-grade model. Rod is in solid Very Fine+ to Extra Fine condition, about as nice as they get. Very light evidence of use. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. All four section are the correct equal length and are reasonably straight. The original varnish has been touched-up in a few places, but remains really nice overall. Rod shaft markings are pristine. All original wraps are solid and complete. All guides, tip tops, ferrules, hook keeper, winding check, grip check and butt cap are excellent. Reel seat works perfectly, with very nice hardware and walnut spacer. Solid cork grip is superb. Put up in the original Heddon bag, which is in nice condition, with no holes or tears. Still carries the embroidered \"Jumping Bass\" bag label, as well as the original Inspection tag, which is correctly marked for the rod. All of this goes into the original aluminum tube, which is also nice, with just light surface wear and no dents whatsoever. Still carries about at least a 90% complete Heddon foil label. The cap, embossed \"Heddon\",has taken one hitbut screws on tightly and securely. A scarce and very choice high-end post-war package from Heddon, all original and complete. To be sold with a modest starting offer and . Buyer to pay $20.00 shipping via U.S. Priority Mail, with full insurance and tracking. Payment must be received within 7 days of sale closure. Thanks for your time and good luck.
