This is a quite superb wooden carved icon panel with the intricate reliefcarving of the Saint Dimitry defending Thessalonika of which:

During our research we have been informed it certainlydates from the 19th century.

Dates about c1880s.

Signed to rear with carved Greek text to top.

It was part of a recent clearance of a convent which resulted in a lot of interesting religious items.

Of a european origin, probably Greek.

a wooden relief carved panel with centrally:

Saint Dimitry on horseback defending Thessalonika.

To the base area, a fallen soldier attacking Thessalonika.

Decorative intricate carvings around the circumference of the raised edge.

It has an overall size of about 9.75 x 6inches.

Max depth of just over 0.5inches.

Condition: Considering the age, the overall condition is excellent andis not subject to any major blemishes.
