Thank you for having a look at my sales. We are very excited this week to be featuring our first offering of items from the Important estate collection of the late Michael Vermeer. Mr. Vermeer is literally a famous figure when it comes to Chinese ceramics starting his career in the late 1960s in his early 20s. With close to 50 years experience Mr. Vermeer was thought by many to be one of the worlds top Chinese ceramic experts and authorities. Celadon, Monochrome, and Flambe wares were Mr. Vermeer’s passion and over the years Mr. Vermeer was commissioned by top world museums and sale houses to appraise and accurately identify important works of Chinese art. Examples from the Vermeer collection can be found in top collections, sold at top sale houses, and in books all over the world. This is session one featuring some incredible and rarely found examples from the Vermeer’s collection. I believe this is one of our finest sales to date. You very rarely see estate collections of this amazing quality and size come up for sale, a sale not to be missed!

Up for sale is a Very Fine and Large Chinese Carved Spinach Jade Dragon Plaque. This plaque is a beautiful example that is superbly carved throughout. I have not seen another plaque like this, I believe being a rare find. The plaque is carved of a beautiful and authentic spinach jade. The plaque has a large dragon among clouds with lotus foliage to the front side, along with a carved and gilt large Chinese character to the reverse side. I am told this plaque was purchased in Shanghai around 40 years at the famous Shanghai Antique and Curio shop. This shop was started in the late Qing dynasty and was the only shop authorized at the time to sell Chinese antiques that could be taken out of the country. Many presidents and other famous people have visited and purchased items from this shop over the past 100 or so years.

I am told this plaque was likely carved in the later Qing to Chinese Republic period. The plaque has a nice rosewood frame that is intricately inlaid with silver wire, complimenting the plaque very nicely. The estate had this plaque resting on a table but it could be easily hung as a wall plaque with a hanging wire installed. The plaque is the largest one-piece spinach jade plaque like this I have personally ever seen the jade plaque itself measuring 18 3/4 inches tall, by 10 inches wide. The frame measures 21 inches tall, by 12 1/4 inches wide. The plaque itself is very finely and thinly carved measuring around 1/4 inch thick throughout. This allows light to easily travel through the plaque giving it an amazing look. This plaque is in very fine original condition with absolutely no damage or repairs. I took the last couple pictures of the plaque outside in daylight so you could see how it looks with light shining through the plaque. This plaque is much more impressive than I can take pictures of, a truly beautiful investment grade example.
