TEMISKAMING & ONTARIO NORTHLAND SPECIAL "QUINTLAND" MENU DIONNE QUINTS TRAIN
Price: US $105.75
Temiskaming & Ontario Northern Ry breakfast menu dated May 22nd, 1939 for the special "Quintland" train that took the Dionne Quints from Callander to Toronto to personally meet the King & Queen of England during their Canada trip.A real piece of Ontario and T&NO history..................Here are some details I discovered about this historic trip:The Quints boarded the train on Sunday night, May 21st at a secluded location. They were immediately put to bed, and the train ran all night to be in Toronto the next morning.
The locomotive had a red and gold nameplate on the front "The Quintland" The special was a 7 car train. The Dionne coach was done up in red and gold.
The quints met the King & Queen on May 22nd, the date the menu was issued.
"THE QUINTLAND SPECIAL"
CALLANDER (Ontario), Monday, May 22nd. The Dionne quintuplets, all of them excited, boarded a special train last night with their parents and other members of their family and attendants, to meet the
King and the Queen at Toronto to-day. Every resident of Callender and the I band were present to offer farewell to the quintuplets,
who chatted happily in ! French and bombarded their mother, 'father, and nurses with questions about the train, which comprised seven air conditioned carriages
especially equipped for the journey.
They asked how fast the train could go if it had a big bell, and if their favorite toys were aboard. They spent the night in a private nursery car, guarded by four policemen. Special supplies of milk, food, and water are being carried on the "Quintland Special." After weeks of practice they have finally mastered the curtsy for Their Majesties. They will be dressed identically in white floor-length gowns, with puffed sleeves.
It is the first visit to the outside world for the quintuplets, who will celebrate their fifth birthday on Sunday.
Minor wear at edges. Old fold mark running across menu. Otherwise very good. Check my other listings for another T & NO menu from their restaurant car The "Agumik".Postage is $6 in the USA and includes insurance. Happy to combine postage for multiple orders. All items are either shipped in a cardboard mailer - or between heavy duty cardboard to avoid bending / damage in transit.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPMENTS : I ship WORLDWIDE.
FOR INSURED PACKAGES : For packages to be insured they have to be shipped Global Express or Priority Mail Express (Min. about $40 - $50 and up) which is pretty expensive. I usually ask if the buyers wants insurance. However, I pack all of my parcels (ESP OVERSEAS) with heavy duty cardboard, and have never had a problem with any kind of damage yet. For extra security, and to save money from the expensive EXPRESS rates, I recommend mailing REGISTERED MAIL. It is an extra $13.65 over the cost of First Class Mail International (Cheapest Rate) and is probably your best bet for cost AND security. I will say that most of my overseas parcels just go First Class Mail International (uninsured), and I have never had a problem...................
The choice is up to you.PAYMENT - Paypal. ALSO: PERSONAL CKS. OR M.O.'S ACCEPTED (and preferred).CHECK MY OTHER LISTINGS FOR MORE INTERESTING CANADIAN MATERIAL : MENUS - NAME TRAIN EPHEMERA - ROYAL TRAINS - ETC.
