The use of energy saving voltage reducing transformers for maximum power efficiency, low cost operation and cool operation, no wasted power in heat generated by other voltage reducing methods and helps in the protection against damage from line surges. Relays are used for positive ON-OFF circuit switching. Yes they click, but allow the use of power saving LED lights as low as 4 watts with no glow in the OFF state which can be a problem with solid state switching. All sequences and wiring diagrams are illustrated in very easy to followpicture style instructions shipped with each unit, including photos of mountingand wiring. This is not a light weightcontroller, but a commercial grade unit. Voltage spike protected at the lineinput, step down transformer for better low-voltage control and reliability inthe electronic section. Heavy duty relays (10 amp)are used for positive switching control with loads up to 500 watts (4 amps) at120 volts, more than enough for incandescent, LED, light inductive loads andcontrolling two traffic lights wired in parallel. For the lowest operatingcost, and easiest maintenance, especially for high mounted traffic lights, andmaximum controller life, LED lights are by far the best choice, 17,000 hours or more. Suggested lamp wattage in LED would be 6 to 15 watts for indoors, 15 to 20 watts outside. Incandescent, 25 watts inside, 35 to 55 watts outdoors. Incandescent burnouts, and inductive loadscan create reverse voltage spikes, which can damage solid-state switches. Also solid state switches can have a problem with LED lights with flickering in the off state. Theoutput section of the microchip in our controller is isolated from any responsevoltage which may be generated, making this controller the perfect choice foryour traffic light or railroad grade crossing signal unit. SPECIAL NOTE: theinput voltage and the output voltage are always the same, 120 Volts in, 120Volts out. Each light, Red, Yellow, andGreen has its own time setting control. Change the timing on one light, withoutaffecting the other lights. A poweroutage will not change any of the operations or settings.

ADDITIONALINFORMATION ABOUT OUR CONTROLLER
After installing, setting up thesequence, and adjusting the timing pots, it is a good time to try out othersequences that are programed into your controller. All sequences can be tried, but only thethree relay programs on the three relay controller will show all thelights. Setting programs for the fourand six relay controller will turn on only lights switched by the first threerelays. Sequences for the four and sixrelay controllers will still operate, but only the lights programed for thefirst three relays will light providing a time lag while the program completesthe cycle for the higher number relays. Four and six relay controllers are available, send for more information on these.
You can do no harm to the controller byplaying with the sequence settings or entering a switch setting which containsno program. If an empty switch settingis set by accident nothing works, not even blinky. Controllers are shipped standard set tosequence #1. There are copies out there of our controller, but none have our versatility or number of sequence programs with new sequences being added as needed. We also custom design sequences to customer requirements at no charge.
WIRING OPTIONS
Just because a wire is red, it does notmean it can’t be connected to a yellow or green light. If there is a sequence you would like, butthe lights are reversed, change the wiring to suit. All of the colored wire are from the samepower line so you may combine colored wires with no harm. Do NOT combine a colored wire with the whitewire, this will blow a fuse. Combining coloredwire will combine the time setting for each. Combine a green wire with a 20 second timewith a yellow wire with a 15 second time will result with a time of 35 secondstotal.
NEWSEQUENCES
New sequences cannot be entered in thefield. If you need a sequence that isnot in the lineup, let us know, new sequences can only be generated and addedhere at the factory. In most cases wecan generate and enter your program into the lineup at no cost to you.
VOLTAGES
Voltage questions come up quite often. We manufacture 12 volt AC/DC, 24 volt AC/DC, 120 volt and240 volt controllers. The voltage at theinput will be the voltage at the output.The transformer on the circuit board is for the electronics only and hasnothing to do with the output voltage.If your local voltage is 240 volts and your light requires 12 volts, a step-down transformer from 240 volts to 12 volts is needed. Our 12 volt and 24 volt controllers will work with AC or DC. Because of the largeselection of outlet plugs around the world, we can’t afford to stock powercords to cover all. For this reason weship standard 120 volt power cords so you can provide an adapter or cut off theplug and wire on the style for your area.
WHATBULBS SHOULD I USE?
A number of questions come up aboutwhat bulbs to use. Incandescent and LEDboth work great with this controller, florescent should NOT be used. As to wattage, that depends on where yourtraffic light is to be used, indoors or out.For outdoors 35 to 55 watt incandescent and 15 to 20 watt LED works well.Indoors 6 to 15 watts LED or 15 to 25 watts incandescent will be quite bright. The use of LED bulbs is by far the best typeof bulb to use. Most hardware storeshave a wide wattage selection of 120 volt, medium base, screw in bulbs to choosefrom. The use of LED bulbs with 30,000 hours life or more, will greatly reducing cost and maintenance chores of changing bulbs especially when used outdoors in hard places to get to and extendthe life of your controller by several years.
