DESCRIPTION:

Body: The crown of this hat has a very wide spider web shaped silk thread covered metal frame which extends down and out to form the crown sides and brim. The majority of the hats I collected were from the 1920s through the 1940s, so I am unsure as to whether this one is from the late 1800s or early 1900s. It is completely hand stitched and is quite lovely. The exterior consists of two sections of a rose pink mesh fabric. The first section covers the crown completely and the second section covers the brim. An array of gold velvet leaves, dyed wheat and green and creme colored ostrich feathers are stitched to the top of the crown and brim. An off white leaf patterned wide rayon? ribbon with machine embroidered flowers and leaves forms the crown band. The entirehat, inclusive of the majority of the above are covered with an ecru veiling. One very large rose pink rayon flower with composition stamen is hand stitched over the veiling on one side. A cotton or linen doily with ecru crochet work around the edge is stitched on the inside top of the crown to cover some of the wire. Another ecru mesh is stitched over the crown opening on the underside. This hat is meant to be worn sitting on the top of the head and hat pinned in place. The clear crystal glass topped 9\" long hatpin will come with this hat. Please check out the other hats I am listing this week. All of the hats are pictured in the last photo. This hat is quite large weighing 1 pound 8 ounces packaged, and the box measures 16\" X 15\" X 6\" If you are over charged on the shipping, the difference will be refunded

Condition: Very Good for its age. There are a few small breaks in the netting which covers the rose mesh exterior. There are wear spots in the rose pink mesh on the brim edge where the wires wrap. There are some pin holes in the underside ecru mesh base cap and the doily covering the inside top of the crown wires. This hat has some wear and soiling commensurate to its age and usage. The clear crystal hatpin has some flea bites on the faceted edges and the metal pin itself has some tarnish on it

Your hat (hats) may become flattened somewhat in transport. To remedy this, just use steam from a kettle to restore shape.
