The knife has a 5\" cast aluminum handle with U S NAVY cast in it along with the manufacturers stamp of GRIESHABER MFG. CO. CHICAGO. The 6-7/8\" stainless steel blade has been polished has scratches where someone apparently tried to sharpen it unprofessionally. There is a leather sheath that apparentally was sold with the knife as a set. This knife according to research I googled was made between 1941 and 1942 for the U S Navy by Herman Grieshaber mfg. co. at specialized in stainless surgical instruments. There were only a limited number produced and were sold in the post Exchanges on Naval Bases. The knife is listed onpage 159 of Cole\'s US MILITARY KNIVES, Book IV.
