Avery fine old Northwest Coast Salish Klickitat Western Washington fully imbricated burden basket dating from the late 1800\'s. This fine fully imbricated hard gathering basket is very finely and tightly woven from split cedar bark and root and the complex imbricated herringbone designs in cream and black from natural and dyed bear grass. The imbricated designs features a herringbone pattern arranged to encircle the basket and give the appearance of mountain peaks. This hard basket is very finely and evenly woven and was made for native use to gather food stuffs such as berries.The basket is perfectly portioned and measures 9 \"Tall by 9\"Diameter at the top and tapers to 5\" D at the bottom. The basket is in excellent condition for its age and made for use specimen, with a complete intact rim and edge loops. Note the fancy durable weave on the top rim edge.
