VERY RARE GEORGIAN Solid Silver CHAMBER STICK 1769 Hallmarked London Sterling NR
COMPLETE & ORIGINAL - William Abdy I - 9+ troy - SUPERB

This is a very attractive and most unusual ANTIQUE GEORGIAN solid sterling silver candlestick or chamberstick that was made in London, England in 1769, probablyby the illustrious Georgian silversmith, William Abdy I at hisNoble Street workshops. It is in a traditionalcircular shape with a circular nozzle and a stunningleaf capped handle. It has stunninggadrooned borders to the edges of the stick and to the edges of the removable nozzle. It has a lovely snuffer. It measures about 4\" high by 5 5/8\"in diameteracross the base and 2 1/4\" wide across the nozzle. It is not loaded, filled or weighted to the base. It isVERY substantial - it weighs295.2 grams -virtually9 1/2troy oz. It is NOT engraved.

It is in very good condition with a little less than the usual surface scratching,a fewdings and dentsanda little distortion - SUPERB - just a tiny split to the snuffer and a possible old professional reinforcement to the handle. The chamberstick is hallmarked withWA, lion passant (sterling silver assay mark),crowned leopard head, O showing that it was hallmarked in London in 1769 - I have shown the hallmark so that you can make up your own mind The nozzle is hallmarked WA, lion passantbut the snuffer is apparently unmarked. A really rare and unusualGEORGIAN English chamber stick after 245 years - so really unusual to find an original set - a chamberstick with its original nozzle & snuffer.
