Four Winds Gallery posted this bio for Joe which I think sums up his silversmithing life as simplyas possible:
Joe H. Quintana (1915-1991)Considered a true master silversmith, Quintana was one of the most innovativeand technically proficient metalworkers of the 20th century. He was introducedto metalsmithing as a shipyard welder during World War II. After the war, hereturned home to Cochiti Pueblo and began his career as a silversmith.
In ethnologist John Adair’s landmark 1944 study of Southwestern silversmiths,he wrote: “At Cochiti there are five smiths who do work for a company in Santa Feand bring their work into town periodically. Joe Quintana is one of the most successfulof these smiths. He reported that he had made $1000 from working silver during thelast year, working at his bench from 9 to 10 hours a day.”
Quintana apprenticed withrenowned jeweler Frank Patania and worked in numerousshops including Gan’s,Packard’s and Simpson’s in Santa Fe and Maisel’s and the CoveredWagon in Albuquerque. In 1966 he became the main silversmith at Irma Bailey’s IndianArts & Pawn on the Old Town Plaza in Albuquerque. While at work in Irma’s shop, Joe wasa magnet for tourists who delighted in watching him – whether soldering an intricate pieceat his bench or twisting silver wire on the pole outside the shop’s front door.
With Bailey’sencouragement, Quintana traveled throughout the country in the 1970s andearly 1980sdoing special shows of his impressive silverwork. After his death, the prestigiousSanta FeIndian Market instituted the Joe H. Quintana Memorial Award for Excellence inTraditional Jewelry. Quintana’s exquisite craftsmanship, attention to detail, and cleandesigns make his pieces timeless examples of classic Native American jewelry.
I believe this belt was madebetween 1950 and 1960, it appears to have been wornvery little....This belt is a valuable piece of Southwestern history and isa MUST foranyNative American andSouthwestern jewelry collector.....
Given its age, this belt has been well taken care of and is in overallwonderful, vintage condition....This is NOTone to pass up..... YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED !!!

NOTE:ALL photos were shot on an iPhone5. In addition, the coloron my monitor isbound to differ from yours. These pieces have been sitting for four years, somehavetarnished more than others, I have lightly cleanedthe most tarnish pieces only to thepoint that I could get reasonably clear photos. Silver used in older piececontain differentalloys thanmodern silver which is an indicator to the age of the piece. IF the piece is notstamped STERLINGthen I am assuming it is \"coin\" silver (.900) . None of the items I havefor sale have been tested. That said, I am a silver collector and would not purposelydescribe or sell anythingknowinglybeingless than \"coin\" silver. On pre-war pieces andFred Harvey your guess is good as mine on the silvercontent, the true value of thosepieces have little to do with the metal content.
