Victor V (The Fifth or 5) External Horn Phonograph - MAHOGANY
As many experienced phonograph collectors would know, The Victor Vphonograph was for some time The Victor Talking Machine Company\'s second most luxurious external horn offerings (second only to the Victor The Sixth).Once the Victor VI\'s production run came to an end the Victor V (The Fifth) became the company\'s top-of-the-line external horn phonograph. The Victor The Fifth was offered until relatively quite late with the external machine being offered into the 1920\'s when internal machines had for sometime been the customers\' instrument of choice. The later Victor The Fifths featured larger cases and were alsoequipped with features not seen on the earlier versions. These later machines are rare in their own right.
But...
Even rarer are these later machines in MAHOGANY cases opposed to the standard oak cases which are relatively common.
Please see here an excerpt (Courtesy of George F. Paul via The Talking Machine Forum) from Victor\'s 1917 machine catalogue offering the then top-of-the-line Victor The Fifth for $60 now featuring the ball-bearing tapered tone arm, automatic brake and an option of a case made from MAHOGANY.
Offered here is an example of this exceptionally rare phonograph in MAHOGANY!!!
This is one of only four mahogany Victor Vs known in existence!
This Example:
- Works, the motor has just been serviced- Has the original finish, I thought best to leave this to the next owner to decided if they wish to clean orre-polish (if I was keeping this I would only clean it)- The case istight and sturdy- The bolts that hold on the back bracket have been replaced (the bracket only had two nondescript bolts holding it on when I bought the machine, I have supplied 2 replacement bolts I had sitting in my parts drawer)- The drop-in elbow has had 4 holes drilled into it to support the horn that I bought it with.Due to the likely cost of freight for a horn of this size I am not supplying a horn for this machine, the horn in the photograph is for display purposes only. As you will see in the original ad a standard Victor Morning Glory Horn was a standard offering with this machine and should beeasily attainable (along with other back bracket bolts and perhaps an unadulteratedhorn elbow).
Please take a look at the photographs supplied as they make up the bulk of the description. Please also feel free to ask any questions and I will answer them best I can.
I have shipped many phonographs of great rarity and value internationally with no issues, so rest assured that the machine will be carefully packed and shipped with fullinsurance. I estimate that the cost of shipping from Australia to the USA to run at approximately $350 given the size and weight of the machine, but the exact cost of Shipping and Insurance will be determined once the machine issold and packed. Please note a low reserve has been added to the listing.
Again this is a RAREMachine do not miss the opportunity to add it to your collection.
Good Luck, Mario
