• THE SHEATH HAS A MIS-STAMP WITH THE EDGE TOOLING ON THE BACK FROM THE MANUFACTURER (RARE)
• THE SHEATH ALSO HAS TWO AREAS WHERE THE STITCHING SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONTINUOUS, BUT THERE ARE KNOTS VISIBLE ON THE BACK. (RARE)
• NO NUMBERING ON THE BACK OF THE SHEATH (RARE for baby dot sheaths of this era, common for earlier Johnson brown button sheaths)
• PLAIN BABY DOT BUTTONS: You can faintly make out the word \"DOT\" written twice on the inside of the female portions of the snaps and on the back sides of the male portions of the snaps.
• Combination two-tone gray sharpening stone (slightly concave from usage on both sides)

I am not a Randall Made Knives expert. BUT, relying on the information of those more knowledgeable than myself, this knife has a high likelihood of being from 1962-1964, MOST LIKELY 1963. The particular stamp on the blade was used on knives documented to be from 1957 to 1964. This stamp is somewhat of a RARITY in itself. And it seems that most knives with this stamp had the SS (Stainless Steel) or S (Stainless) stamp as well. This knife has neither (RARE). The alignment of the lettering helps to identify the stamp. It is the \"Type 2\" stamp referred to in this forum:Dating old Randall blades by blade stamp - The Knife Network Forums.That, in combination with the characteristics of the sheath, would lend one to believe that this knife was made on the latter end of that date range. The accepted transition for Johnson to \"baby dot\" snaps was as early as late 1962, probably 1963. Because of this, I believe this knife to be from 1962 to 1964, MOST LIKELY 1963. The errors in manufacturing might show up after a transition and the lack of numbering on the back of the sheath would align with the lack of numbering from most brown button Johnson sheaths that were previously produced. Also, the particular stitching used in the butterfly, the lack of numbering, and the buttons correspond with an identical sheath from 1963 mentioned on this page:“The Magic Randall” - Page 8 - Post #118 - The Knife Network Forums.If so, THIS SHEATH IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE TRANSITIONAL FIRST (RARE) SHEATHS WHEN JOHNSON FIRST INTRODUCED THE BABY DOT BUTTONS AND WOULD THEREFORE LIKELY BE FROM 1963. Again, I am not a Randall Made Knives expert. If you feel like the statements made in this paragraph are false, please message me and I will gladly revise them given sufficient proof. For this reason, I have given so many detailed photos of the knife so that you can make your own determination of the approximate date of manufacture. I DO NOT CONSIDER MY APPROXIMATION OF THE MANUFACTURE DATE OF THIS KNIFE AS FACT, SOLELY A DEDUCTION BASED OFF THE INFORMATION OF THOSE WHO KNOW QUITE A BIT ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR BRAND. I do know that this sucker smells old! ;-)
These items are not perfect, but in EXCELLENT CONDITION considering their age. There are some scratches and marks, but nothing major. There are some scratches and scuffs on the leather and buttons of the sheath. The sharpening stone is slightly concave on both sides from wear. The knife itself has some minor marks and wear throughout. The blade is moderately sharp, but could be fine tuned further to achieve a razor sharp edge. SEE THE PICTURES FOR ALL THE SPECIFICS.
