We recently acquired the account of a local estate of apro-horn player, who has one of the most beautiful collections of instrumentsthat we’ve ever seen. He was a former student of the Eastman School of music, and as an engineer by trade, he traveled all over the country for work, andalways stopped in local shops, usually leaving with something from each one. These are some of the rarest and most unique horns you’ll ever find, and theconditions are superb. We have noticed that overall, these were meticulouslymaintained and well-cared for during their lifetime, and while most of them arein better condition than some you will find in a store showroom, we ask thatyou assume your horn technician will go over these for a top to bottominspection and setup, as many have not been played in many years. We’ve doneour best to notate what we have noticed on each one, but being that we are nothorn experts, please feel free to ask any questions you might have.

This might be one of the rarest of the rare in the pro hornline! From our research these were only available as a special order from Connin the 60’s, and were designed to be a better playing and easy to hold basstrumpet than the competition. The serial number (K31225) dates this to 1967, webelieve. According to our research, we found that this has a “#2½ bore(0.485\") and is played with a trombone mouthpiece, as I understand it.Also notice the adjustable first slide saddle and the huge bell. I understandfrom Dean Hubbard, former Conn clinician, that it has a 6\" bell. He wastold that the mandrel they used to form this bell was the same as the ArturPrior bell (2H). Mr. Hubbard says that they do look alike and have the sametaper.” This information was found online through both forum help and archivemodel information. This is the best information that we have found availableabout this particular horn, but being that we are not the experts, we can notconfirm or deny this information. We’re hoping that those in the horn communitymay know better, and on that we’d be happy to assist with answering any morequestions, should you have them.

Going through this top to bottom, this is in immaculatecondition. The lacquer, which we believe to be the original, is beautifullyaged and shows nearly no signs of wear. There are a couple of extremely smallmarks (pictured) that are almost impossible to see unless you look up close. Wechecked the 5 slides and all are moving, with the 1st valve slide onslightly sluggish. It looks like a proper cleaning and oiling will make itperfect again. The valves are also all freely moving, and are spotless inside! This comes with a Conn “3” mouthpiece, and will ship out in the original case(also in perfect working order, and spectacular condition), tightly packed, andfully insured for the final offer. It even has the original keys and warrantystub! Thanks so much for looking and good luck!
