Vintage BATTERY OPERATED ALPS NAVY SEAPLANE Working CompleteAll Original 1950 Age 67

This toy was made to appear like the Hughes H-4 Hercules (also known as theSpruce Goose). The Spruce Goose is a prototype strategicairlift flying boat designed and built by the Hughes Aircraft Company. Intended as a transatlantic flight transport for useduring World War II,it was not completed in time to be used in the war. The aircraft made only onebrief flight on November 2, 1947, and the project never advanced beyond the oneplane manufactured. Built from wood because of wartime restrictions on the useof aluminumand concerns about weight, it was nicknamed by critics the Spruce Goose, although it was madealmost entirely of birch. The Hercules is the largest flying boat ever built, and it has the largest wingspanof any aircraft that has ever flown. It remains in good condition and is ondisplay at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museumin McMinnville, Oregon.

TheAlps Navy Seaplane is a fully working battery operated toy, it is an amphibioustoy that has wheels to move on the land(Your floor) and the seaplane has a propeller to play with it like a boat inyour pool.

One ofmany features differentiating this plane, making it so desirable compared to otherssimilar in appearance, is the interactive excitement and fun from the batteryoperation. Free of a remote control, cables, and the limited run of friction type cars, the Navy Seaplane propels itself onland and water for as long as the battery will last. Set the articulating front wheels to the side, sit back and watch this 67 year old 1.75 pound behemoth ride along the floor ofyour home. Alps made a custom, special motor to move this heavy batteryoperated toy.

Theplane is a land and water toy, running on asphalt, banging into concrete curbs,or was left by the poolside to rust. The wing lights had no chance of survivingonce we dunked this toy into the pool.

Thisone survived, and is in like new condition. Please examine the fine conditionof the rubber tires, printed heavy gauge tin and the overall appearancepresented in the picture gallery.

Thisexample is untouched and not restored, complete with all original parts. Theplane on off switch is very unusual and creative, and works perfectly, in otherwords, no sometimes or maybes or you have to play with it to activate themotor. Press the battery cover lid down, slide the lever over and the planewheels, propeller and lights kick in. The switch and motor work perfectly.

The AlpsNavy Seaplane operates exactly as the toy is intended to work.

Thereis no tarnishing though the plane is 67 years old. The fuselage and wings do not have any breaks, cracks, separations, bends or distortions in shape. All parts are intact, original and notmisshapen.

The NavySeaplane is an absolutely beautiful toy and will be a center piece in yourcollection. It’s difficult to believe this was made to be a toy.

The batterycompartment is clean, without corrosion. Working perfectly, a sliding tab locksthe battery cover.

Thewing span is 15 inches, the length is 13.5 inches and the height (verticallyfrom the tire bottoms to the tail top) is 7 inches. The toy uses only one “D”cell battery. Please insert a new battery on first use.

*****Spruce Gooserepresents one of humanity\'sgreatest attempts to conquer the skies. Itwas born out of a need to move troops and material across the Atlantic Ocean, where in 1942, German submarines were sinking hundreds of Allied ships. HenryKaiser, steel magnate and shipbuilder, conceived the idea of a massive flyingtransport and turned to Howard Hughes to design and build it. Six times larger than any aircraft of itstime, the Spruce Goose, was also known as the Hughes Flying Boat.

Originally designated HK-1for the first aircraft built by Hughes-Kaiser, the giant was re-designated H-4when Henry Kaiser withdrew from the project in 1944.”
