Up for sale is a good,oversized Mallard Drake made by the dean of Michigan decoy makers Ben Schmidtof Detroit, ca. late 40s – early 50s. The paint is mostly original but shows smallremnants of old overpaint on the head that was carefully removed. The speculums may have been strengthened aswell. The paint does show some wear form useincluding rubs to the bill, head and tail and the paint is a bit thin on thesides. Structurally the decoy is in excellent condition with its original glasseyes and only a small hairline age check in the back. This big bird is classic Ben Schmidt withnice feather stamping on the back and forward of the speculums. This would be a nice add for any Schmidt orMichigan decoy collector.
