Firstly, my apologies for the reserve, i usually do not apply one, apparently, I'm still having a love affair with this clock and I don't know why. Maybe it's that Alpinerocky mountain carving theme or that well carved eagle up top, look at those feet and razor sharp talons!! Some of these Vintage clocks don't get the respect, recognition and attention I think they deserve in my opinion. I think it's a great investment as these Vintage clocks will be the next generation's antique's, the value has no where to go but up in my humble opinion.
If the reserve isn'tmet, I guess I'll make love to it a little longer. I've owned this piece for many years , it's gorgeous, prowling eagle perched up top on that rocky outcropping eyeballing a potential meal below while those goats realize it and are heading for cover in that shack before the eagle swoops in and begins to feed, starting with the eyes, ewwww, nature can be brutal!! I've seen eagles live in action, they start with the eyes because a blind victim can't see you to defend itself, O' HOHOHOHO. that's brutal man!! WHOA!! MERCY!!!
This clock is in EXCELLENT condition inside and out, The movement receivedthe same treatment as any other clock I decide to add to my "permanent" collection. Bronze bushings front and back, top to bottom, the movement underwent a complete overhaul, bushing, every wheel/arbor chucked up, turned, lapped, topped, polished, etc. Meticulously inspected and repaired as necessary, it is in perfect, strong working condition, good for another 70-80 years!!
My goal when overhauling a movement is to actually attempt to improve upon it's functional condition even better than when it was new, tighter tolerances, etc. The bellow pipes and tops I suspect are original with new covering and sound off excellent, cuckoo bird still retains it's original paint and also is flawless. The case carvings have one repair all the way at the bottom on the left daisy flower but, that's it, rest of the case and carvings are mint, great color, no fading, eagle is beautifully carved, carvings 3 inches thick up top, bird, perfect, dial, carvings, case, roof, back door, all perfect. All seams nice, tight, and flush to one another, movement, mint, numerals, hands, original and perfect.
Oh, pendulum may be a replacement, not the end of the world, replacements are easily found. I do not know what the original may have looked like, I've never found an identical clock for comparison. Movement is stamped Hubert Herr, I think, I'll have to double check that. As far as a Mfg date, I would say war time, 1940-1945, or immediately post war, considering the movement and wood bird with moving wings and beak. Chains are original and a proper fit to their wheels as are the weights as well...
