Drop forged over 100 years ago from virgin steel (NOT recycled steel like is used today) at the Sabatier factory in Thiers France.This piece is a real find. It was located in a warehouse owned by a gentleman who used to own Sabatier.
The blade measures 3 X .75 inches and is not marked. The overall length of this knife blank is 5 3/4 inches. Total weight is 1 oz. The blade is straight with a Nogent (Rat Tail) tang. This blank is virgin forged and has not been ground or worked in any way.
Please Note: The knife blank in the picture is a fair representation but not the exact knife blank you will be receiving. If you look at the photo you\'ll notice a line running down each side. It looks like a depressions.
These blanks were way over molded with plenty of excess metal for grinding. If you have ever seen a finished paring knife of this size you\'ll know that they were wafer thin. So please understand that when both sides are ground down to a perfectly flat surface there will still be more than enough with to produce a super stiff blade.Also at some stage a starting edge was ground on these.
