Krampus Candy Container

c1910

~ Standing tall at 12 and a half inches tall

The Birch Wood base is 5 and a half inches by 4 and a half that he stands on. The wood is a bit warped most of the pictures has something on the bottom under the stand to sit correctly.

The red fabric candy container sits at 5 and one quarter inches

The minions are 3 inches tall. I\'m guessing these were later placed with him at a later date.

The Ladder measures 7 and half inches.

He has been listed on three facebook sites so far Golden Glow, Vintage Halloween, and My site facebook.com/attic.things. I placed him on these sites for more authentication and to let some of the other experts go over him as well. He has been very well photographed in the end probably around 70 pics. Feel free to ask any questions regarding him or even on the other sites I have listed and ill be happy to answer them. I ended up with multiple offers on Mr Krampus and to be fair to all decided to see what the market would bring since its rare to have this size up for purchase. I would like to take this short bit of time and thank the experts as well as the many people who added the history and gave some more insight on him. He would not be going up for sale if it was not for everyone involved.

This Krampus was in my mothers Halloween collection displayed for many years. All her items were either her\'s or purchased throughout the years. This item is only out of a select handful of items she had that had no paperwork on were he was purchased. So it leads me to think that this Krampus was passed down to her. She was Czech and a massive collector of vintage holiday items mainly from the 30\'s and 40\'s. She had him displayed year around in a glass cabinet. My mother passed away in 2010 leaving me with the huge collection of Dolls, Rosbro plastic\'s, German items etc. This is the entire reason im a seller and the creation of my sites. Through the years she did teach me but like most sons some things at the time were not fully saved in my brain. I have decided that there is just to much and its time to give him a new home were he will be cherished.

In German-speaking Alpine folklore, Krampus is a horned, anthropomorphic figure. According to traditional narratives around the figure, Krampus punishes children during the Christmas season who had misbehaved, in contrast with Saint Nicholas, who rewards well-behaved ones with gifts. Regions in the Austrian diaspora feature similar figures and, more widely, Krampus is one of a number of Companions of Saint Nicholas in regions of Europe. The origin of the figure is unclear; some folklorists and anthropologists have postulated a pre-Christian origin for the figure

My Apologies on this listing and not being able to get the color or paragraphs to work correctly! Errr can not even get this to go big text.

I would like to add a few corrections to this listing. One will be the date and this was discussed both on Golden Glow facebook as well as vintage Halloween. I want to change it from c1910 to \"Thought to be from 1900\'s\" There was a similer one but not exact that was as well thought to be from the 1900\'s. He isvery old no question on that but due to no markings it is just going to be about impossible to determine a year on him.Last I wrote Birch Wood Base that should be \"Chip Board base\". I do Apoligize for this it was not meant to throw anyone off. The age was talked about in one that was simlilar and that one was as well not known. I refernced other candy containers from that area to make that determination.
