VINTAGE FOLK ART 1930\'sPAPER MACHE MONSTER MASK 10” TALL HALLOWEEN AMERICANA

This sale is for atrue oddity and freak show classic from New England as a vintage 1930-40’s (?) hand painted paper mache Halloween style mask of aTriclops! The mask is flesh toned hand painted withvarying highlights and realistic flesh tone appeal. This mask features borderline grotesque and bizarre details such as two noses, two mouths,and three eyes and eyebrows. The 3 eyesaremarvelouslycreepy as they appear verylifelikeand convincingare made from a mesh which isun-punched (seethrough) material and hand painted eyeballs that seem togaze upon you! Has very little wear as shown, the back has ahand sewn cover for the back of the head – that is black on the outside andwhite on the interior and shows signs of ageing! The interior of the mask is newspaper and covered mostly with a thin plane whitepaper– very difficultto find anything to place the exact age but it appears to be from the early toperhaps mid 1900’s. This colossal monster mask has a large forehead and hand painted curly black hair on the top – blendsnicely into the black fabric on the rear.

Thisantique mask iswearable – with three eye holes for the wearer to freak you out from. This mask could very easily be worn with simple adjustments if you desired to scare your neighbors or mother-in-law. It measures 10” tall by 10” wide and about 5 ½”from base to nose tip. Eyes are 7 1/2\" from left to far far far right eye... This mask is awonderful example of Americana Folk Art as it was pulled out of New Hampshireand most likely was part of a theater, play, reenactment or costume party!

So your Cyclops maybe cool but it does not hold a candle to this 3 eyed Monster - behold the TRICLOPS and tremble! This mask is extremely cool in person andlooks fantastic in a display case - 3D design and flesh toned paint really make this mask appear to be a living head behind glass. Butbe warned it may indeed freak out young children and adults alike, also not responsible if it puts your mother-in-law in shock and she must be hospitalized. The mask is an oddity that draws the imagination of all whom behold his glory!
