Vintage Huge Ponytail Barbie Lot Dolls, Complete Outfits, 1959-\'60 Wow
Price: US $1225.00

This lot is is not the end. It\'s not even the beginning of the end. It is, however, the end of the beginning. That is, the start of my grandmother\'s prized collection, or the meat of it (I should say) has begun with this listing!

Up until now, only the extras, doubles, and so forth have been offered as I\'ve spent painstaking (actually, it\'s been quite a good time!) hours pouring through my grandmother\'s cases, trunks, and boxes attempting to organize the most effective path to showcasing the over 60 years that have contributed to this marvelous collection. Days and weeks hunting down the correct year, names, and outfit combinations like a puzzle pieces finding their correct spot. (Though, truthfully, she did provide wonderfully detailed notes & a great autographed book along with some older appraisals for values as a jumping off point!) As my husband accused me of \'playing\' rather than \'preparing\' said dolls & their extravagant wardrobes for listing (I can neither confirm nor deny these allegations), I suppose I must come to the conclusion that perhaps I\'ve done as much as I can by way of prep. So here goes nuth\'n!

I included among the photo\'s of this lot, a photo showing a good chunk of the lot that remains of the overall collection prior to pulling the 1959 first year line. Just for the sake of reference. (Should some Barbie collector want more info, feel free to contact us, or we\'ll keep on keep\'n on) Shown in the large lot photo are all items previous to 1967, except for a handful of dolls and odds and ends that simply couldn\'t find room in the photo shoot or were cut off in the picture all together. After an attempt at a count, we lost it around 1500 items pre \'65, then another 350 and likely more (as we quit) for the era commonly referred to as \'mod\'. As one can see, it takes an entire room when displayed and that\'s not all of it! (not to mention a good quarter that\'s been sold previously!) Granted, as I personally decided it was my duty-😊to test each and every outfit on dolls (had to, never got to touch them growing up, ever) and discovered why grandma was so picky all these years. Clearly, these were never actually intended for children or clumsy people. I discovered quickly, one strong tug, or a brief wrong turn and snap! There went a necklace, a glove, or a shoe that apparently to replace, not only is ridiculously expensive for an authentic one, (for now I unfortunately know all the differences thus, and so does my not so happy to be informed husband who handles the returns and tracks my expenses!) but is scarce to boot! Alas, all mishaps have been corrected with no real trauma to speak of. At the time of this listing, I can now say with all the experience of a novice crash course inspector....I think we have a \'not so firm grasp\' on what we have here! lol So, with that rousing vote of confidence, let\'s get to the amazing inventory list, then I\'ll speak on the cases, and lastly the dolls themselves.

We chose to list just the two dolls with this particular lot as they happened to be packed with this line of items. My grandmother was rather particular and though you can see by the pics showing a little more than what was originally half of the overall collection, there was simply no effective way to list it all together as it\'s just too detailed. So, although these two beautiful gals are not 1959 issued, I thought they did the job beautifully!

KEY:

L/R=denotes in shoes that the left and right has been checked and the pair is complete.

O/T= denotes \'open toe\' in reference to vintage shoes.

C= denotes that the outfit is \'complete\' with all items in undamaged, unplayed with condition, ready for display as they have been so used in years prior, though the assessment of condition is being made by a novice and not an appraiser or personal collector, but the collector\'s heir. Using as a source of reference the \'Barbie Fashion\' book by Sarah Sink Eames Vol 1, 1959-1967.

IC, NC= IC denotes incomplete, an outfit is missing 2 or more of its total number of items, with NC or near complete is for outfits missing 2 or less.

1/1= the fraction (this being just an example) after item identification #, represents amount of items in outfit\'s listing verses the total number of items that are supposed to be in the completed outfit. EX: If outfit comes with 10 items and the outfit we listed is missing 2, it will read: 8/10. If all items are present, it would read 10/10.

Condition= I only claim items to be \'mint\' if they are actually still in the package. Otherwise they are ranked as \'vg\' or very good. However, In a lot such as this, very few- less than perhaps 10%-15% will have flaws requiring attention. If there are more than that, they have escaped me or I am blissfully unaware. I\'m not speaking of normal aging for which we have no control, but of actual tears, breaks, holes, stains, rips, missing buttons, snaps, zippers not functioning and the like. All these are non issues unless specifically noted. All accompanying belts, fasteners, and other clothing specific items are also specifically listed below. Enjoy!

#964 6/11 IC: Gay Parisienne This outfit is not tagged and may not be authentic! For some reason, it was not packaged with all the other vintage ensembles, but by it was instead by itself. Also it did not have grandma\'s typical notes. For that reason, we will not vouch for its age. This said, it is still a beautiful garment and displays with all the class and style of any other vintage garment as shown in pics. Has a stole (not real fur) tagged with a black and white tag, graduated pearl necklace, a single navy shoe (so it\'s shown with black), a black patent envelope bag that also goes with Roman Holiday and Easter Parade outfits, a very rare hat that is from another line also related to the \'friends of Barbie\' set, according to my grandma\'s notes. It looks so amazing on all the dolls as she used to show it on a Midge doll and Belle dress for Easter which always looked really sweet! The hat is so large, I opted to forgo the earrings, but there are two sets already in this lot if need be plus a pair of long white tricot gloves. Very pretty!

#965 5/5 C: Nighty Negligee with a sheer pink long gown that fastens with a tie and a matching robe. An accompanying felt dog comes with the set. In addition, the pink Japan marked L/R pom pom O/T heels are missing the pom poms, but otherwise perfect.

Cases

There are 2 cases that are included with this lot. Both say \'Ponytail\' & both have R in a circle with \'TM Lic., & c by Mattel, Inc. 1961\' along bottom. The round hat box shaped case zips all the way around and is in absolute amazing condition. Looks as though it was never used. The other, which has the \'c\' in a circle after it\'s \'ponytail\' is also in exceptional condition. Both have original handles, closures work, cardboard drawer in great, strong shape.

Dolls

This is a bit confusing to me, so hang in here.

Blonde Ponytail:

I apologize ahead of time for my lack of knowledge as I believe we didn\'t pay enough attention to just how detailed all this is 6 months ago when we first tackled selling the dolls and all that accompanied them. Therefore, many of the boxes and so forth have likely been mis matched & accidentally sent off with incorrect dolls and new owners not saying a word! lol On that note, Blonde\'s box (or the one I\'m fairly sure she was in) reads : Barbie ( w/R in circle) stock no 850 Blonde Ponytail. Imported from Japan. On front, it reads: Barbie (R in circle ) Genuine teen age fashion model t.m..

I believe her to be a 1961issue as those are the fashions on the exterior of the box & on the inside reads \'Gladys 1961 Christmas\' which was my great aunt, my grandmother\'s sister in law. Likely, this was a gift. The original lining is still in the box, a bit beat up, but there none the less. Box itself in very good shape with a separation starting at one corner. There is writing directly on inside, & side of box to note DOP, but you can\'t see if displaying in box. Not certain what else people like to know of their Barbie boxes! No date printed on box that I could see unless I don\'t know where to look.

The markings on her posterior read:

Barbie (if there was an \'R\' or \'TM\', it\'s so faded, it can not be seen) Pats Pend. C in a circle MCMLVIII by Mattel Inc.

Blonde Barbie has a beautiful ponytail and silky looking hair for an untouched, unrestored doll. Her legs have spread a bit, but she is still quite stunning. Makeup looks pretty good with her lip color turning a bit dark over the years. She does have various surface abrasions, but nothing serious, just the regular signs of having been dressed & undressed, set on stands and such. Hands, feet, nail polish all in good condition. She does have some green ear that isn\'t as bad as some I\'ve seen but it\'s present. Doesn\'t appear to be too drastic. She still shows very well. Any other \'need to know\' questions, please ask or more pics needed? We got lots & lots!

Brunette ponytail Barbie:

Her box was unfortunately crushed. We went ahead and are including her spare rubber band for her ponytail as the original one broke. So, her hair looks a bit better than in the pics. She does also have green ear, but even so, she is a beauty of a doll. Her markings read \'Barbie (R in circle) Pats Pend. c in circle MCMLVIII by Mattel Inc. One arm is a tad on the swingy side, but still holds a pose. I know she was my grandmother\'s favorite. Her notes say she was acquired in 1962. Makeup looks fairly good but could benefit from a touch up.

Have no idea how to identify which number these gals specifically are so, guess if you want to assist before offerding, feel free to send us a message & we\'ll see what we can figure out. As such, we\'re throw\'n caution to the wind & runn\'n a true , low start sale!
