VINTAGE MARTIN COMMITTEE TRUMPET ALL ORIGINAL WITH CASE SERIAL # 142205 \"1944\" ?
Price: US $2080.99
This was a great estate sale find. It is an all original 1944 (if my serial number 142205 research is right) MARTIN COMMITTEE trumpet in it\'s original case. From the best I can tell, this instrument has been put away inside this case for many many years. I can guess this by the fact that there was a broken bottle of \"CONN POLISHED OIL FOR PISTON VALVES\" inside the storage area. This bottle had a glass dropper inside it. My thoughts are this has frozen and broken, and the case has not been opened since, for surely someone would have cleaned out that broken glass. (see last photo). All I have done is cleaned out the case, wiped the trumpet down with a damp cloth. I removed the valves to see the numbers. They are all free but stick from time to time. I am sure they need cleaned and oil but as you can see in the photos they are in great shape. They are numbered 1 -2 - 3 with the serial number 142205 below that on each one. I measured the hole in the middle on the #2 valve and the best I can tell it is about .438 inches. (see close up of tape measure). The trumpet has some wear marks. There was an old plastic guard around the valves that cause it to pit some where it was attached. This may rub out, since some of it looks like the plastic from the guard. As you can probably tell, I am not in any way an expert on trumpets, but if you are looking at buying a Martin Committee you already know way more than me anyways. If you need any more info or pictures, just ask and I will do what I can do get them to you. I did not try to disassemble this in fear of messing it up. I talked with a friend who is a touring trumpet player and he advised me not to trust anyone in my area to mess with it. So any cleaning and restoration will be left up to the buyer. The bell has a very small dent and there is a small ding in the bend of the first tube. No other dents that I can see. The bell is marked........MARTIN HANDCRAFT (or Y CANCRAFT) this has been engraved, probably owners nameCOMMITTEE MODELELKHART - INDUSAThe trumpet is 19 inches long and the bell is 4 3/4 inches in diamater. It has two mouthpieces that are both marked. One appears to be bent or is angled up. It is marked RUDY MUCK? CUSHION RIM (doesn\'t look like Muck, but that is what my google search finds). The other mouthpiece is marked OLDS 3. There is a music holder and wire brush also in the storage area. There are three mutes. One is a rubber plunger marked DAISY #400. The metal one is marked ELTON FRENCH MODEL. It is missing one of the cork pieces and one is loose in the case. The third mute is marked NEW STONE LINED CUP-MUTE HUMES & BERG. The case is in really nice shape on the inside and has some bumps and scrapes on the outside, but still nice. It has the original MARTIN ELKHART INDIANA USA tags on the inside and outside. Handle is missing leather cover but unbroken. I think that is about all I can describe about it. If you need more information, feel free to ask. Good luck, I hope this finds a nice home where it can be played again. I read that these trumpets just \"want to play jazz\" I found a video about a 1944 Martin Committee called
Painting Jazz - The Martin Committee Trumpet on youtube. Check it out for some cool information on this instrument.

On Oct-21-14 at 20:41:15 PDT, seller added the following information:

To my embarrassment, it has been pointed out to me that the name \"HANDCRAFT\" that is engraved in the trumpet on the bell is not the owners name, but the Model name. This is a MARTIN HANDCRAFT COMMITTEE TRUMPET, and as such, is one of the first models made. I have seen dates on other webpages of 1936 - 1941, but my search on the serial number dated it to 1944. There is a #2 on the bottom of the second valve that is not really visible in the picture. I am told that is an indication of the bore size. I am going to take some pictures in natural sunlight to try to correct the redness in the photos I have. If you would like to see these, let me know. I can\'t add more than 12 to this listing, but I would be more than happy to email them to you.
