Up for sale is a veryearly and rare hand carved, hollow, Slope-Breasted Mason Mallard Drake, ca. 1895. The decoy is in mostly goodoriginal paint with some touch-up to the speculums, the breast and at a tailchip repair. There may also have been a wash applied to the head toeven out the color. This old relic doesshow some wear from use including rubs and minor chipping to the bill andtail. Some of the putty has come out ofthe holes where nails were set to join the two body halves. There is some separation at the body seam.The neck filler has been replaced with some touch-up in that area. The bird is branded with what appears to be,?WJ LEMP.? It retains its original glasseyes and has a horseshoe shaped strip weight on the bottom. All in all, this isreally tough to find decoy in thiscondition from the most respected and collected Detroit decoy factory. Measures 16-1/2? long; 6-1/2? wide and 7?tall.
