Very niceand unique ‘family origin” curved (vaulted) 1914 Iron Cross 1stClass. This cross measures 42mm by 42 mm, is the type with a solid cast ironcenter plate with finely silver beaded rims expertly adhered. You can onlyobserve the workmanship by seeing the separation line on the 6 o’clock position(lower vertical) arm. The front and back of the Cross are in good conditionwith the front retaining its’ stove baked black enamel. The reverse is of silvered backing. A wide range of variations exist with regardto the fasteners. This Cross has not only the vertical pin but two curved tunicprongs one on each side of the pin. A good illustration of this variation maybefound on page 139 of D.E. Bowen reference book titled The Prussian and GermanIron Cross. This is another award sent to the U.S. after the Second World Waras part of the ‘Thanks” extended by distinct German relatives who received CAREpackages. As stated in many of my past sales my immediate family hasabsolutely no interest in this “stuff” so I need another appreciative person togive it a new home.
