This is a special little basket or plaque. Clearly a tourist item but an early one. Having an overall whirling log motif this basket was woven with considerable skill and obvious pride. You can tell a good basket by how much care the weaver gives the revese side. See photos. The stitch count on this little basket is "crazy". Again, see photos. Basket has another "feature" I have never encountered but have heard of. I know that weavers have been known to leave a "signature stitch" to identify their work. I have also heard that others applied a stamp to their work. This basket has a mark of either a dog paw or a four petal-ed flower on the reverse. It is clearly not a flaw but an identifying mark.
