Vintage portable folding LC Smith & Corona Typewriter Inc Model 3 spec. X628039
Price: US $102.50
Vintage L.C. Smith & Corona Typewriter Inc. folding portable typewriter. Serial number is X628039 -which I believe is from 1929 and the \"X\" designates it is one of the special Model 3 configurations.
The typewriter basically seems to work through the functions that I know how to use. I am not an expert or dealer, though so please see the exceptions below and be aware that some servicing, adjustments or repair may be needed before using. I will call it a display for now until it gets serviced. It also comes with a small metal vial with a flat bladed tool that screws out with the lid. Measures about 11 5/8\" wide x 10\" deep x 6\" high.
One of the smallest antique folding typewriters with a very minimalist, sleek, classic design. Some of the issues I noticed are as follows- there may be others I am not aware of:
-It definitely needs a new ribbon. The one on there is so brittle and chewed up it won\'t even feed through as you type. The spool gears do work properly, though - you can watch the gears move with each letter typed.
- The paper feed ratchet system is working correctly but the paper doesn\'t grab well enough on the old roller so it sometimes feeds unevenly when you turn the knob- a common problem on old machines. Gentle pulling pressure on the paper seems to help keep it straight as you turn it either way. Also, there is still some residue of machine oil along the paper route that may take a little while to wear off. I will keep running papers through to try to absorb what I can.
- The capital letter and figures keys work, as does the slide to hold it locked in either position but... I did notice that the left side fig. key needs to be adjusted upwards a little. The carriage lifts far enough up to type the figures when you press either side\'s Fig. key- but if you use the locking mechanism to hold it there, the lock\'s metal slide pushes the left hand side fig. key up a very slight amount. This causes the top section of the numbers and figures to miss the ribbon. It will have to be re-adjusted before using the lock.
- There is some light rust, finish loss and a worn front decal. The flat plate covering the bell area is a little bent in the middle but it doesn\'t affect any functions. Bell works- classic typewriter sound! A pad on one of the bottom feet is missing- looks like they were just blobs of a soft material covering the sharp edges.
- It still has its original carriage draw string which looks a bit frayed but the mainspring and the cord tension seems OK.
- Occasional sticking keys or skipping. It could probably use a servicing if you want to use it as a working machine- sold \"as found\" and \"as is\".
- There is a carrying case but it is in terrible condition on the outside and someone has glued the front flap closed so you have to take the machine out of the case to use it. Also, the catch on the case does not hold- useless as a case, really. I will still include it just to protect the typewriter during shipping. No refunds on this as I am selling it \"as found\" and \"as is\". It will most likely need some attention before using as a working typewriter. Please see pictures and I will be happy to answer any questions.
