Thanks for looking in on this sale for an older U.S.A. madeSCHRADE 172 hunting /skinning knife. The Schrade Company closed it\'s doors in 2004, after 100 years of production. Owning aSchrade USA made knife such as the 172 UH, is like holding onto a piece of Schrade history.

These original USA, quality-made Schrade knives are becoming very collectible! This Schrade 172 fixed blade bowie, I believe is referred to as the \"Wildcat\". The original old Schrade sheath and whetstone are included.

BLADE:

The upswept blade is constructed of a high grade of steel known for its strength and durability. The bowie knife has no blade edge nicks and is smooth to the touch, but there are some tiny pepper specks, due to it\'s age. Also, there are some signs of re-sharpening and the bright blade has surface scratches. There are no evident blade edge nicks, and the tip is pointed. The reflective full blade features a handy thumb rest. No doubt that this old style of Schrade fixed blades would be great for hunting or collecting.

(please view beautiful stag /bone-like handle captures the look and feel of real antler, but is made of Schrade Staglon which is a quality synthetic material \"known to be chip proof, flame retardant, and virtually indestructible\" (as stated in the original papers that come with this type of knife\", but papers are not included with this sale).

The easy to hold handle has finger grooves for a firm, yet comfortable grip.

The heavy duty 1 5/8\" long brass finger guard is about 1/4\" thick, and is secure. Also, two brass rivets help hold the handle securely, and a factory thong hole is featured to add tie down strap.

The old Staglon jig-bone style handle is in almost like-new condition.... (please view photos for complete companion genuine leather sheath (or case) has a working snap straps, large belt loop, and intact stitching.
The sheath is heavy duty, and measures almost 1/2\" thick. I believe that the sheath is original and it fits the Schrade knife well. The old brown sheath shows use and normal wear for it\'s age. The Schrade sheath has a sharpening stone pocket on the front that fits the 3\" whetstone well.

The old sheath and stone appear original to the Schrade knife. The case and stone have a nice vintage rubbed look that adds to their autenticity.

The handsome Schrade 172 UH knife will only continue to increase in value. Therefore this Wildcat bowie will make a greataddition for the collector, or outdoorsman in your family!
