This sale is for a Vintage Waterman 0552 1/2 fountain pen.
The pen itself is in excellent condition for its age. I believe the pen was manufactured some time in the 1920\'s.The pen is covered with an 18k gold filled overlay, in the rare \'Sheraton\' pattern. The end of the barrel is marked \'0552 1/2\', as shown in the photos. Just below the lever, and the end of the overlay, there is another engraving that reads \'Waterman\'s Patent ...?... Fountain Pen\'. This engraving has started to fade, and part of it is no longer visible.There are no deep scratches, dings, bite marks, chips, cracks or personal engravings on the pen.
It features an incredible 14ct gold, flexible, wet noodle nib marked:WATERMAN\'SIDEALNEW YORK2
The term \'wet noodle\' is often overused when describing flexible fountain pen nibs. As I understand it, the term refers to the amount of pressure required to spread the tines of the pen to full flex. A wet noodle nib requires very little effort to flex, and they often write a very thick line when at full flex. They are sometimes even referred to as \'paintbrush\' nibs.This particular nib canachievehairlines of 0.19mm, normal writing of approximately 0.26mm, and can write lines up to 1.82mm wide when at full flex.All writing samples were done on Rhodia paper using Diamine Ruby ink.

This pen is in fully restored, working condition, and was recently fitted with a new ink sac. Compared to most other vintage pens in my collection, I would say that this is a reliable writing instrument, and would be suitable for everyday use. The pen is fairly inky, and may require filling slightly more frequently than other pens.
