Listed this week is an amazing and very fine estate collection of Chinese jade and stone carvings that includes some interesting and fine scholarly stone objects. There are some fabulous and rarely found pieces listed including items with Museum provenance, I believe being some of the finest carvings I have offered. Collections such as this do not come up for sale very often, this is surely a sale not to be missed!

Up for sale is a Very Fine and Rare 18/19thc Chinese Qing Dynasty Duan Inkstone Scenic Carved Wall Plaque. The plaque is an exceptional and very rarely seen example. The plaque is carved of a superb hu of Duan Inkstone. I believe hu’s of this large size are rarely found. The plaque is exceptionally carved throughout with superb and intricate details. I was able to find a couple examples online and in books that were noted as being 18th century, which I believe is a correct dating of this plaque, but to be perfectly safe I am selling it as 18th to 19th century. The plaque has a great landscape design with three scholar star gods, imperial boys, bats, clouds, and large pine tree. The plaque itself could use a light cleaning but we never like to touch anything like this. As you can see the outer wood frame has some shrinkage cracks and is in “as is” condition but could be replaced if one desired. The plaque displays beautifully measuring in total 19 3/4 inches wide, by 26 1/2 inches tall. The Duan stone plaque itself measures approximately 14 1/2 inches wide, by 18 1/2 inches tall.
I did find one similar example online that in my opinion was of lesser quality with an estimated value of 20-30,000USD, so I believe this plaque could have substantial value. In over 20 years selling such items this is the only example like this I have seen in person so I believe it could be a very long time before you have the opportunity to acquire another piece like this. As ordered by the estate lawyer this plaque and the rest of this amazing collection is to be sold to the highest buyer with Absolutely s.
