This is an early, large and difficult to find Waltham Pilot House or Wardroom Clock. It has a 12 inch case, slightly larger in back, and ten inch dial. It is a time only clock, no strike. Waltham Marine clocks were made in very limited numbers, especially the large ones, and feature very high quality movements. The very heavy brass case has a screw bezel and thick, original glass. The dial has some oxidation from 100 years of use, but is in very presentable condition. The hands have lost a little blueing, but are in good, original condition. The clock started running almost immediately upon winding, but has probably not been serviced in several years. No key is included with clock.I have not touched the fast/slow setting and clock loses about 30 seconds per day as it sits. According to the Chelsea Clock Museum website, Waltham produced around 317 of the earlier type of this clock pre-1900. More were produced later, until the 1920\'swith the platform escapement running across the top of the round movement plates. This is one of those, with a serial number of 50,249.
