Waterman Hundred Year Pen c1940s in bright red transparent ribbed lucite with gold filled trim. Full size model with Waterman\'s 17-size nib. I believe this is the second-year Hundred Year Pen with the triple band on the barrel, no bands on the cap.

The nib is extremely fine, making a tiny, truly hair-like hairline. It is moderately flexible, and with pressure, the tines open up quite a bit, creating a fairly wide line (I\'d say the maximum is 1.5mm, but see the writing sample). The result is dramatic line variation and a great look.

You very rarely see a fountain pen that will make a line as fine as this nib\'s hairlines, and the effect is quite attractive.

It\'s great for any sort of pointed-pen calligraphy style like copperplate or spencerian. It\'s not overly soft, requiring a bit of pressure for the tines to widen, so you can easily use the nib without shading, and it\'s good for everyday uses where a very very fine nib is needed, such as in a checkbook.
