Waterman 52 fountain pen, circa 1920s, in black chased hard rubber with nickel trim.

The nib is fine and very flexible. With no pressure it gives very nice fine lines. With pressure, it makes quite wide downstrokes, just exceeding 2mm in width. This is extreme line contrast. The nib is great for pointed-pen calligraphy styles like copperplate and spencerian. The nib is fairly soft, requiring some, but not too much, pressure for the tines to separate. I\'d say it\'s just short of a wet noodle in this regard. See the writing samples.

With the nice fine hairlines and the thick swells, this is a very unusual nib.

The pen itself is a good example of a 52, with unusually dark color and clear chasing and imprints. The threads engage as they should, and the cap turns about half a revolution when closing, but the inner cap is loose, so the final engagement is not as solid as usual.
