Waterman 52 fountain pen, circa 1920s, in red and black Ripple hard rubber. This is a rare example of a \'nervous\' ripple pattern, where the bands are wavy and irregular, and there are large blotches of the coral-colored red. It\'s really striking. The condition is truly amazing: the surface is bright and glossy, and the imprints, both at mid barrel and at the end of the barrel, are strong and crisp, with molten edges still present in the letters. There is one flaw -- there\'s a small oval hole in the barrel in the threads, about the width of one thread. It seems to be a manufacturing flaw, and did not hamper disassembly of the pen to install its new sac.

The Waterman #2 nib is fine to medium with a fair amount of flexibility.It\'s not overly soft, and so requires some pressure to get the tines to separate, but is capable of getting quite wide. The line contrast is quite significant, and the pen is lots of fun to use. It\'s good for everyday, but is also capable of pointed-pen calligraphy styles like copperplate or spencerian.
