Westinghouse H-188 “Pagoda” Antique Ebony Bakelite Tube Radio 1948 Lighted Dial
Price: US $225.01
MODEL, YEAR, FEATURES:  With its curvy roof and front panel cut-outs, this unpainted ebony Bakelite  radio carries a strong oriental theme.  The lighted dial and rotating gold ball and pointer beautifully accent the face;  the Westinghouse artists have to be commended on this cabinet.  The Model H-188 dates to 1948, yet you’d hardly know it looking at this one that remains in superb condition with only the lightest signs of wear on the lustrous cabinet.  Polished knobs control Volume and tuning, and this radio plays the AM band nicely after a recent servicing of the chassis

CONDITION, SERVICING, PERFORMANCE:  The unpainted ebony colored Bakelite cabinet is in exc detailed condition as seen in photos.  There are a few very faint scratches, but nothing to divert the eye or spoil the excellent appearance of this radio.    The dial scale has sharp graphics and numerals, well lit by the bright pilot light seen inside and outside the chassis, and the dial cover is crystal clear without scratches.  Gold ball dial with orange Lucite pointer rotates smoothly without binding or slipping after a restring of the dial cord.  Chassis electronics have been gone through, and many checks were done of components, solder joints, etc.  The  electrolytic filters and other capacitors were replaced, radio was burned in at length, aligned, and the chassis was cleaned.  Tuning & dial mechanism was cleaned & lubed, power cord is safe and pliable.  The interior and chassis are clean with no dust build-up or odors.  Radio now plays the AM band with excellent sensitivity and tone, free of static, hum, or distortion using its built in copper band loop antenna.  No external antenna wire is req’d, although there are wires that can be connected inside the back panel to boost reception in outlying areas if necessary.  Radio has its original knobs and fasteners and uses the All American Five tubes that are commonly found to this day, and easily accessible if one ever needs replacement.  The original backboard is in excellent condition, firmly fastened with the factory tube layout diagram and model number still legibly printed on it.  This unusual tube radio will be well worth preserving, and it might be difficult to find a nicer example.          .

DIMENSIONS, SHIPPING:    Radio measures 11 inches wide, stands 7.2 in tall, and is 6.5 in. deep from the front of the knobs to the back side (old 6.5 Oz. Coke bottle in photo placed to give sense of scale and show reflective surfaces).  I’ve shipped well over a thousand  delicate tube radios worldwide for the past 16 years on with fine packing methods, so no worries.   For shipping rate outside the USA, please inquire, as the shipping calculator is notoriously inaccurate.  Radio will be sent off on the day or day after payment is received.
