Wileman tea set trio, Jungle print on Daisy shape, 1890
Price: GB $175.55
This is a Wileman Daisy shape teacup, saucer and side plate printed with the spectacular \"Jungle Print\" pattern in turquoise.
Wileman (later renamed Shelley and sometimes called Foley) was one of the most respected manufacturers of fine bone china tea sets in the late 19th Century, and many of their products are now collector\'s items. They made many different shapes of cups and the Daisy shape is a popular one - it drinks easily and makes the hand painted pattern stand out beautifully. Its elegantly scalloped saucer is a delight to hold in your hand.
The Daisy shape with a Jungle Print pattern was registered in 1890. It is a very densely drafted pattern that accentuates the colour it is printed in because of its intensity.
There are three of these sets available, all in the same good antique condition, as well as a large cake plate. Please see separate listing for a quartet (this trio plus the large cake plate).
CONDITION REPORTThis set is in excellent antique condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or even hairlines. The only sign of age is that all items are crazed and as a result there is some light staining in some places - but the stains are not severe and do not result in hairlines (I have checked carefully). Crazing is the result of the glazing of the item shrinking faster than the body. It is caused at the point of production but is often not visible until decades later, and is therefore a normal sign of ageing that in most cases does not devalue the item. The turquoise colour of this set is still bright.
Kilns were fired on coal in the late 1800s, and this meant that china from that period can have some firing specks from flying particles, and the glazing surface can be a little uneven in places. This is normal for antique items from the 19th Century. In this set, you will see some of these specks, scratches and here and there some stray colour. Please see the last few pictures for examples of some of the irregularities you can expect.
All pieces carry the famous large Wileman mark in turquoise. They also carry a printed registration number 115010 (Daisy shape) and the registration number 8807 hand painted in gold.
DIMENSIONS(diameter at the widest point): cup 8.9cm, saucer 14cm, side plate 18.6cm
Please note that all items in my shop are of vintage condition. They have often been used for many years and can have normal signs of wear. I try to reflect any damage, repairs or heavy wear in the item description but some minor scratches, nicks and stains are normal for vintage items and need to be taken into account.
