WWI TRENCH ART SUBMARINE
WITH IDENTIFIED SOLDIER NAME

Up for sale is a World War I era trench art submarine. It\'s made of brass and depicts a submarine with 4 torpedoes on top. One side is inscribed with the name of an identified American WWI soldier, \"Wm. F. Landes Co. 19\"\" and the opposite side is inscribed \"Epinal France\". Epinal is a town in northeastern France that served as a staging area for troops during WWI and is currently the site of an American Battle Memorial and Cemetery that contains the graves of many WWI and WWII soldiers. The submarine measures about 4\" long, 1\" wide, and 1 3/8\" tall. It has 2 holes in the top, suggesting that it may have been a lighter that is now missing its striker and wick.

William Franklin Landes (1890-1949) was a soldier from Augusta County Virginia. I\'ve been unable to locate any of his WWI service records, but found a copy of his draft registration card online and he was listed as a veteran of WWI in the 1930 U.S. Census. I\'m not sure what unit he was in, other than the clue \"Co. 19\" that is inscribed next to his name. I purchased this trench art piece at a local estate sale in th Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and I live in the same town where he is buried.Condition of this unusual trench art piece is GOOD. As I mentioned previously, I believe it was a lighter that is now missing the striker and wick. The sides of the piece have several small dings. The brass has a nice natural patina. Overall, this interesting WWI item looks great and displays well. It would make a fine addition to any collection. Please take a close look at the many photos I\'ve provided and judge condition for yourself. I\'m confident you\'ll be very pleased with this purchase.

If you collect antique trench art items, particularly those from WWI, don\'t miss your opportunity to offer on this offering. It\'s a one-of-a-kind piece that you will never see again. My start price of only $9.99 (WITH ) is a ridiculous bargain and intended to spark interest. So offer now while the price is right and check back often. This lighter WILL be sold to the highest buyer!
