NORMANDY LANDINGS 6TH JUNE 1944 .

D DAY MAPS

UTAH, OMAHA, GOLD, JUNO and SWORD beach defences

plus combined map of all beaches with gun positions and ranges out to sea.

Please note this is the DVD listing of ALL six maps.

On the 6th June 1944 the seaborne invasion of the Normandy beaches began, codenamed Operation Neptune. The beaches were divided into five areas, Utah and Omaha commanded by American forces, Gold and Sword by British forces and Juno by Canadian forces.

A great deal of intelligence was amassed in relation to the defences likely to be encountered at each location from static obstacles such as \'Hedgehogs\' to the more deadly flamethrowers and various calibres of guns from light machine guns up to 280mm guns with a range of 40,000 yards.

Maps were produced of these defences up until 14th April 1944 to aid in Operation Neptune and the D Day landings and were coded \'Top Secret\'. They were issued shortly before the D Day landings to naval commanders, for use by them and the landing forces

An original copy of these maps formed part of the memorabilia collection of Sub Lt W.Page, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, and were carried on board LCT (A) 2138 RNVR, as part of Assault Force \'U\' 110th Flotilla, carrying 200 American soldiers of the 49th Engineers Combat Battalion. These soldiers were landed on Utah beach at HHR+ in the first wave at 0630hrs.

LCT (A) 2138 (originally LCT 138) became LCT (5) 2138 as part of the lend lease agreement with the UK and was operated by the RNVR. Subsequently designated as (A) \'Armoured\' during the D Day landings.

The original maps have been scanned on a large format scanner and the resulting scans converted to PDF files. They are conveniently viewable on DVD at very high resolution showing the smallest detail of the German defences.

These are GENUINE 1:1 full size scans of the originals as carried during the D Day landings and not subsequent \'mock ups\' or \'magazine pullouts\'. As such they were the only information available to the landing forces of the defences they were about to face.

The German defences shown on all 6 maps are quite staggering considering these landings are one of the greatest deceptions of all time and the main German forces were concentrated in the Pas de Calais.

Available as a separate listing are the \'Intelligence Briefing Packs\' for Operation Neptune in the form of 3 ANNEXES.

ANNEXE A ( ASSAULT BEACH DEFENCE MAPS )

ANNEXE C (TEXT AND DIAGRAMS OF NEPTUNE BATTERIES )

ANNEXE D ( TEXT AND TRACES OF COAST DEFENCES )

These add detailed information in relation to the German defences in the region and \'in depth\' information relating to gun positions, rate of fire, weight of shell, range and whether the position is camouflaged etc, this is particularly relevant to the \'overview\' map of all five beaches.

These have been scanned at high resolution, converted to PDF files and are also available as a DVD document.

Also available with the D Day maps of Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword is a complete \'overview map\' of the whole Normandy landings area which shows all five landing beaches with all known gun positions, types, numbers and estimated ranges shown as \'arcs of fire\'. Each \'arc of fire\' has a unique reference number which tallies with the number and type of weapon and also with the \'Legend\' in the margin. Further detail can be gained from the Annexes listed separately.
