WW2 Knife Crafters Patton saber fighting knife dagger w/ sheath used in action
Price: US $384.99
Up for sale today is an extremely rare piece of WW2 history. At the start of the US\'s involvement in the war, several private companies began making fighting knives from the blades of WW1-surplus Patton cavalry sabers. They were commercially sold to GIs shipping out to supplement their issue weapons. This is one such all original knife. Made by Knife Crafters of PA using a re-profiled segment of saber blade, fitted with a leather-wrapped steel handle and steel hilt. In its new life the blade is a 7\" (12\" overall) double-edged dagger with a fuller (\"blood groove\") that extends through the hilt. Comes with original sheath. This particular knife has an especially interesting history. I bought it from the son of the original owner who relayed its story to me: A Mr. Page was sent to the Dakar region of Africa by the OSS after the fall of France, posing as an oil company researcher. His real job was to gather remaining Free French forces and sabotage German-controlled airstrips in Africa. It\'s unknown if he bought this knife prior to going into action or if he acquired it during his time in Africa, but regardless he returned to the US after being wounded and this knife came home with him. For the next 70 years it sat in a tool chest until the owner\'s now-elderly son found it. I hate to sell it but my knife collection is small and this really should be owned by a more serious collector than I.Very good condition overall. Blade and other metalwork has rust staining and past sharpening scratches, etc. Was cleaned at some point in the recent past. Handle leather is in good condition other than some wear at the pommel. The leather sheath is still supple and in good condition--even smells fresh!Feel free to contact me before offerding if you have questions. I only ship to North American addresses. Check out the shipping tab for less expensive options. Have fun offerding.
