Description
This is a large brass trench art artillery shell casing. It weighs approx. 13\" It is 9-1/4\" high and 8-5/8\" in diameter at the top and 9-1/4\" in diameter at the bottom.
The bottom is marked Polte Aug 1916 Magdeburg It also has the number 64 and SP252. There are some other marking in the very center of the casing looks like maybe a German name and number 14 and what looks like H L S (s could be a number 5, not sure)
It has a hammered design with a leaf and acorn. Raise lettering Argonne Forest 9 26 18 is on the front side.
