WWII USMC MARINEPARACHUTE TROOP CAMOUFLAGE UTILITY COAT

TheMarine parachute troop’s camouflage utilities were manufactured of the samestyle camouflage as the jump smocks and it is believed they were not officiallyissued until February 1943 although recommended for adoption on November 27,1942 along with the camouflage jump smock. They were not worn in combat until August 15, 1943 during the invasionof Vella Lavella. The coat had internalpouch pockets located on the brown side that were bellowed and located on thechest to allow access through the slant pockets on the jump smock. These pockets were accessed via slanted flapsthat were secured by a single domed button. The pocket could be accessed on either the brown or green side, as aflap was located on both sides. (This information was obtained from GRUNT GEARby Alec S. Tulkoff – Pgs.74-76)

  • I am not sure ifthe stenciling on the sleeve of the brown side is manufacture’s marking butthere is not really enough info for me to really make it out (see photo)

  • There is arepaired area where there was once a tear (bottom – back near pleat) whoever didthe repair did a very good job, I almost missed it. (see photo)

  • GRUNT GRER states \"pleat is found on both sides of the utility coat. Many coats are found today with several inches of the coat removed, including this pleat. Removal of the pleat reduces the value considerably. (both pleats are present with this coat)

  • All domed snapsare present but the snap on the right side pocket (brown side) is pulled out ofthe material – the snap both sections are still attached together.

  • There is some writinginside one of the pocket flaps (see photo)

ANOTHER COLLECTOR WAS KIND ENOUGH TO EMAIL ME AND GIVE ME THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION ABOUT THE MARKINGS IN THE SLEEVE OF THE COAT, I HOPE THIS HELPS EVERYONE WITH THE sale.

The marking in red is: WESTERN COSTUME COMPANY, HOLLYWOOD, CA\".

There is a lot of controversy on thisparticular tunic, not being made of the Army HBT Reverse camo material used inall WWII USMC Govt Contract manufactured Camo uniforms, but this one is madefrom reverse camo shelter half, like cotton material. The known 100% originalsare made from the US Army reverse camo HBT material, identical to the P44 USMCCamo trousers you have currently listed. (All reverse camo from WWII was USArmy HBT, Marine Corps & US Army). Non-Camo HBT material for the USMC was adifferent pattern of HBT than the US Army. There is some speculation this Paramarine jacket\'s style (Non-HBT) material mayhave been made overseas (Australia, New Zealand) out of shelter halfs, but ithas never been verified through documentation or war time combat photos. The USMC provided many combat uniforms to the movie studios during WWII for warmovies to promote enlistments, so it is not uncommon to find original WWII USMCUniforms with \"Western Costume Co\" markings or \"ParamountStudios Markings\", but I would way on the side of caution with this jacket& add into the listing information that it is not made from HBT material, that it has the costume company markings & that you are unsure if it isUSMC Issued (Theater Made), or Hollywood Made for WWII movies.
