ZENITH MODEL 12-S 242 IN VERY GOOD READY FOR RESTORATION CONDITION. Many collectors call this the WALTON model as it was seen on the TV show the WALTONS. This is a real untouched 12-S 242 (except by long past radio shop repairs). I purchased this radio from the daughter of original family that bought it new. At the time they lived near the Oregon coast. It was kept in the family and stored in clean dry storage until I purchased it from her several years back. I intended to restore this radio for my collection, however I am moving to smaller quarters and have decided to sell it.
Condition Unrestored, clean, no rodents, corrosion free. Has all of its original wood knobs, paper tag on the bottom. The rubber chassis cushions need replacement.The power cord was shot, but before I removed it, the following was tested. The radio was brought up on a Varac with a series lamp load. The following was found, the filaments light, some sounds emanate from the speaker indicating a good speaker, operating transformer. The motor drive moves the tuning capacitor and dial belt (not tested at full voltage). The speaker is the correct one for a 12-S 242. At least one of the chassis mounted electrolytic caps have been replaced. The volume control has been replaced. A competent electronic restorer can bring this radio to excellent condition.
The cabinet appears to be all original finish (note the faint KAST call letters scratched in the side of the cabinet). The grill cloth will need replacing, I will supply a new replacement cloth with the matching pattern.

I have had questions about how the radio will be packed for safe shipment. I have braced the speaker and chassis with Styrofoam and foam cushion blocksso they are supported from shock.The face and knobs will have soft foam cushions about the front of the radio. The radio will then be packed in heavy inner box. The heavy inner box will be then be placed in the outer box filled with Styrofoam Peanuts so the inner box iscushioned by the peanuts. I how that removes doubt about the packing.
