Hi, all, I just completed the installation, which went fine (UNIX). All permissions set. I used the control panel to set general settings, styles, forums, indexed threads (even though a fresh install), BUT: when I clicked on "Your UBB" I just get a page that says "The page cannot be found." It's confusing, because the URL that it tries to take me to, http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/Ulitmate.cgi?action=intro, shows the correct cgi directory.
Umm...I might be stupid or something, but is that the ACTUAL URL your UBB is pointing you to? If so, try editing the CPLINKS.HTML file, look for BASE HREF= and change that to the correct location of your UBBCGI dir. Check absolute paths also in your General Variables.
Thanks for the reply, but no, I just substituted "my.domain.com" as a generic for the real server site!
I went carefully through cplinks.html, and it all looks ok. As I mentioned, all of the other links from control panel to the various tasks work fine. I just can't get Ultimate.cgi to be recognized, whether I run it from control panel, or just from the browser.
Can I get a link to your UBB? It can help me trace down the problem quicker. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
There is not now a real UBB that people are using. It will be up on my new site, which is still under testing, and whose home page is currently http://209.195.59.130/PPghome_page.html
Ok, another stupid question, <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> , is there a Ultimate.cgi in your UBBCGI directory? The rest of the UBBCGI files seem to be there, I only get 404 error on Ultimate.cgi.
I can't seem to find your Members directory too, I tried typing in the URL to it, I tried several combinations, yet I get a 404 error. If there was a Members directory, I should have gotten a 403 Auth Required error...Perhaps a re-install of the UBB?
If re-installing, be sure to upload all CGI files in ASCII, CHMOD them 755. Upload variable files in ASCII, CHMOD to 777. The Members folder is usually under the UBBCGI directory.
Oh, Yakbak, I found the problem, and it was soooo simple.
I had a RewriteRule in my Apache httpd.conf that recognized a string in the URL to my main UBB page, and it rewrote the URL to something that didn't exist.
Sorry for running you around. You probably couldn't find the Members directory because it's one level *above* the root.
I don't know. I think (and some of this field is a big mystery to me) it has something to do with an internal domain name server at the company, Globix, that is hosting my new dedicated server.
