I went through the installation step by step - uploaded all the files to the necessary directories, changed all the permissions, etc. - then setup the board with no problems. But when I try and register a new member, I get an internal server error when I try to submit the script.

It creates a member record, but there's no response page. Only the error. I checked the Apache error log and found the following:

[Thu Mar 1 15:10:21 2001] [error] [client 10.121.2.22] malformed header from script. Bad header=maparicio@ensim.com... User un: /home/httpd/cgi-bin/ubb/ubbmisc.cgi

Here is the directory info for the ubb cgi-bin:

Hmm... I got it working now. I guess I had it set up for e-mail verification using sendmail instead of SMTP and it wasn't working...

Hello Mike,

I happen to be experiencing the problem you described, namely: Internal Server Error 505 on ubbmisc.cgi upon registering a new user or retrieving a password

May I ask how exactly you resolved the problem?

I did not have problem with using SENDMAIL before with the earlier version. But since upgrading to 5.47e, the error message appears whenever I try to register new member or retrieve password. I am using Linux on Apache server. Please kindly advise how you resolved the problem. Also, where did you look to find the error log?

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Austin

Well, actually, I just turned off all the mail functions. Not much of a fix, but at least people are able to register now.

Either mail was configured incorrecty (wrong path to sendmail or wrong smtp server info) or Socket.pm is not available on your system (run the socket test in the general variables config page)

Hello Mike,

Thanks for your reply. If you turn off all the email options, how do people get their login details?

Hello Mark,

Thanks for your response. Both the sendmail path and socket are correct and available.

Message on socket check:
"The Socket module is installed on your web server. You may use the Socket option for performing UBB email functions."

My path to sendmal is /usr/sbin/sendmail and for other email form cgi scripts it is working fine.

Any other suggestions? Pleaasssseee help...

Thanks in advance,
Austin

I was getting the same message "internal error blah blah" and I followed the suggestion to run the search for Socket thing...it seems like it is not installed on my server. I followed the instuctions to edit four of the cgi files and it worked like a charm.
In General Settings click the Socket search link, if you get the error then click the "click here if you have an error" link and it will tell you how to edit the files to solve the problem.
