I would either like to remove the pull-down menu that defaults to "Show Topics from last 20 days", or I would like to change the default value.

I have been unable to find anything addressing this in the User Guide or in the FAQs.

Does this flexibility exist?

Control Panel => General Settings => Display Options => Default Topic View (Days)

Set it there in the control panel. The default only affects new users nad unregistered users. Current users will have to edit their preferences.

Removing the drop-down menu from the intro pages or the preferences requires code modification which is not supported here. Ask at www.ubbdev.com

That sounds simple enough ----- except that I do not have such an option in my control panel. (Version 5.006)

Could you post the URL to your UBB?

You didn't mention you were using one of the old freeware versions.. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I only have a copy of 2000d lying around and there is no such option. The menu item Hal mentioned is in the licensed series of 5.x

Ahhhh . . .
I guess we've finally gotten to the root of the issue.

I wrote to Infopop Support saying, "We are evaluating UBB and have not been able to find the answer in the User Guide or FAQs. There is a pull-down menu that defaults to "Show Topics from last 20 days". We want to know if there is an option for whether to display that menu, or if the default number of days can be changed." and got no response from them.

So then I posted my question here. You are saying then that I can make that kind of configuration, but it is not available to me in the freeware version.

Thanks for you help.

The licensed versions of UBB do support defaults for that value.

The freeware version hasn't been available for download since UBB6.0 was publicly released though - I doubt it is still supported. There is a UBB6 demo version which you can download, but it is a DEMO, and it too is not fully functional. (Though you see most of the CP options - they're just not active, amongst other restrictions)

I would suggest reading this page for a detailed description of the UBB6 demo.
