Email was working fine on our site for over two weeks for new registrations.

Now we are getting this at the top of the pages when it send mail:

Stalkerlab's SMTP Mailer V1.20 Invalid or duplicate arguments in command line Syntax: mail -s "subject" -c [cc-list] -b [bcc-list] -a [attach-list] to-addr... Program aborted

UBB can only work with Sendmail on Unix or SMTP on either Windows or Unix.

Whatever "Stalkerlab's SMTP Mailer" is, we don't support it...

Thanks, Charles, I really need some help here, still having problems. Our contact forms in other locations are working fine using the same SMTP information. Only UBB is not sending emails.

I have contacted my hosting service and told them that the problem has to be on their end but they emailed me and said it is my problem. I have tried everything and can not get anything to work. No email is currently being sent out.

As I stated above, I have not touched any of the UBB scripts for over a week. This error began late last week. I get this when I put in the SMTP info:

Code
An error has occured:
Unable to connect to the SMTP server. The following error was returned: Unknown error

The server either does not exist, or rejected the connection.

Please ensure that the UBB is allowed to relay mail through the server.

Please inform the board administration of this error so that they may fix the problem. Thank you!
This is what I got back from my support:

Your ulitmate bulletin board scripts use the same mail program as fommail.pl. From the error message it is very clear that you are passing a parameter that has incorrect syntax "Invalid or duplicate arguments in command line Syntax: mail -s "subject" -c [cc-list] -b [bcc-list] -a [attach-list] to-addr... Program aborted"

The mail program on the server (mail.exe) was never modified. It is not affecting anything on the server other than your scripts. This is a scripting issue and needs to be corrected on your end. You may want to check the syntax of your code where the mail program is called. The server is working correctly.
I really need some help here. All email features including emailing is not working on the forums.

Stalker Lab was being used when we were trying to access the mail.exe file. We have gone back to the SMTP mailer as noted in my message. Thank you, but I can read.

Anyone else?

No it doesn't. UBB uses SMTP on NT. It does not pipe mail through another program. The error UBB is throwing indicates that it can not connect to an SMTP server. Please provide kenya with a proper SMTP server name for the UBB to connect to. Thank you.

So what did you change on the UBB or what did they change on the server two weeks ago that broke it? These things don't just mysteriously stop working all by themselves. Something changed. That is what you need to identify.

Ok, perhaps I should be looking for a new host. This and a number of other problems are driving me nuts. I know this is not the right place but I see the forums have been cut back. I have been with HostPro for over 3 years with a number of accounts. Since they merged with Interland and on any of the new packages I order, it is just a headache after a headache.

Can someone recommend a good quality host that I can test out one of my newer accounts with or at least recommend a good site to go to for references. I do not mid paying the bucks.

Cheers!

I've used Hostway ( http://www.hostway.com ) for over a year now and I have never had a problem with them. I am running a UBB5 on my account. I plan to upgrade to 6.1 soon but I haven't yet.

They do provide SCSI drives, which I read are very helpful to UBB's I/O. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Here's their FAQ if you are interested: http://www.hostway.com/support/webhosting.htm

Ok, here we go again. I have emailed them once again, talked to them on the phone and I am getting no where.

Short of moving the site to another host altogether, does anyone have any recommendations of how to get through to these people?

This thing has got me so stressed out, I have just about had it with them. I understand the problem, you understand the problem, how come they can't? Surely I am not the only person on Interland using UBB.

David, they asked me what mail coding you used in the mail script. Forget it, just babbling here. I have to do something and right now I am going to power down this machine for a couple of hours and go pound some walls.

Mail coding?

perl module, Mime::Lite

Look in the modules directory of your UBB for Mime/lite.pm

But that doesn't answer the question of why it was working and why it stopped working with nothing having been touched on your end or ours.

^^^^^ THAT is the point to beat into their heads until you get an answer. err.. politely beat <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Nothing changed on the UBB but yet it stopped working. Things do not simply just stop working on their own. They changed something. Make them tell you what. then maybe we can figure out what they did and how to adapt UBB to make it go if necessary or advise them what they need to do.

Thanks, David. I have sent yet another email. I talked to them on the phone thi morning and they are just as clueless live as they are through email.

I state the fact over and over again that it worked last week but this just stumps them more <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Silly question coming.... does the Modules directory need anything special permissions? I am on Win2000 server.

Quick question... any bad news about Verio? I am thinking of moving there. Sorry to post here, not much action over inthe Web Hosts forum and I have to get this major account (that is having all of the problems) working... now. Plus, I respect your opinions.
