I have some users who wish to change their public names. So, since it cannot be done from the CP, I edited the member .cgi file manually and uploaded it.
Then I rebuilt all stats, posting histories etc
However, when you go to CP and view the member profile, it still lists the login name along with the *previous* (and now removed) public name. And when you click on the member to get a view of the profile contents, the
Publicly Displayed Name: field is now blank.
Is this info stored elsewhere? I did notice a public_names.cgi file, but for some reason (probably due to previous upgrades, since I've been using UBB since early 1998) it doesn't contain the previous nor the new publicly displayed names. In fact, that file doesn't seem to contain all the publicly displayed names either. I checked the number of lines in the file against the number of registered users and the latter exceeds the former.
